Hull City produced one of the biggest shocks of the Premier League opening weekend, beating Manchester United 2-0 at the MKM Stadium. Goals from Semi Ajayi in the 17th minute and Nobel Mendy in the 38th minute gave Hull a two-goal lead before half-time, which they defended to secure a memorable victory.
The result was particularly significant for Hull, who were returning to the Premier League after nine years. It was also their first-ever Premier League victory over Manchester United, ending an 11-game winless run against the Red Devils.
But the result looks even more interesting through the Who2Win vote. With 1,418 votes from 45 countries, Manchester United entered the match with 64% of fan support, compared with 36% for Hull.
The contrast was striking: United were the clear fan favourite, yet Hull delivered the result. Hull had particularly strong support in Malaysia and Türkiye (75%), while United led in the UK (61%), USA (68%) and Spain (69%).
Fans wanted United to win. Hull actually did.
