The fixture was moved from Saturday because of City’s Carabao Cup commitments.

City are operating at a completely different level in terms of resources and expectations, while Sunderland can play this one with the freedom of having very little to lose. If the Black Cats can stay in the game, the Etihad could start getting nervous.

The Black Cats famously won at the Etihad in 2012, although those glorious days feel a long way away now.
