Match preview
Forget the East Midlands niceties. Forest have Coventry coming to the City Ground, and there is absolutely no shortage of local bragging rights to fight over. Forest have the Premier League pedigree, Coventry are the newly promoted Sky Blues, and both will fancy this as a chance to make a statement. Kick-off is 5:30pm on Saturday 19 September.
Recent form
Forest are still searching for their first league win, while Coventry are discovering that life back in the Premier League is rather less forgiving than the Championship. Forest battled Liverpool to a 2-2 draw at Anfield, while Coventry followed their opening defeat at Arsenal with a 1-0 loss to Hull. Neither side will want to be handing out sympathy points here.
Head-to-head
Now for the awkward bit. Where’s Leicester when you need them? Forest and Coventry have plenty of Midlands history between them, but both have spent recent years looking elsewhere for their biggest scraps. Leicester normally provides plenty of fuel for the rivalry machine, although the Foxes are currently down in League One after relegation. Forest and Coventry might just have to entertain themselves instead.
Why fans are watching
Forest want to prove they belong among the Premier League regulars. Coventry want to prove they belong there too. Add a packed City Ground, two proud Midlands clubs and Leicester watching from League One, and you’ve got a recipe for some very loud opinions. Will Forest send the Sky Blues home disappointed, or can Coventry pull off a result to really announce their arrival? Who does the world WANT to win?
